peeking peeking switched spanked ouch peekingLast week’s Love Our Lurker’s was a huge success. All credit to Bonnie and of course you. Here is a list of participating blogs.

Another blog worth another mention is Wholebean and I by Paolo. He laments Irish narrow mindedness, but there is a lot more to read here.

Blossom and Thorn had the back story to Bettie Page with some pictures.

Rollin has a story excerpt, the picture is above.

Other pictures are from Plector, Devlin O’Neil, CutiePie, Stan’s French Au fil... (taken from Italian spanking I think) and Spanking Starlets.

spanking spanking spankingNow we mustn’t panic or show any weakness whatsoever, but one month today it is Christmas day! Okay, so panic a little bit unless you are done and dusted.

Actually this may be a British thing, for instance this Thursday is Thanksgiving, which many Americans look upon as a bigger event when the whole family gathers. But if so, then you are lucky.

Christmas in Britain (which we may be forgiven for thinking is already here judging from shop displays and TV ads) lasts more or less officially from Advent (1st December) until Twelfth Night (which is either the 6th or the 5th January depending on your local tradition). That’s 36 or 37 days, which when you think about it is about 10 percent of the year.

“I wish it could be Christmas every day…” goes the song, sometimes it damn well feels like it is. With the upcoming American feasts that is an awful lot of dead turkey. Goose anyone?

And so to last week…

The Spanking Spot, which has been suffering some unaddressed Trojan issues for months, has finally disappeared. We can only hope that this is a technical issue and Brushstrokes will return, but it maybe ominous.

In better news, Wholebean and I reports that Ireland has had a more positive report on the spanking scene debate.

Also Kai on Acknowledging Imperfection has a new story.

Rollin also has a new story out.

I had a nice email from Michael Thorn of Blossom and Thorn complimenting me on my work and pointing out that I am now the most featured author in their favourites section. By the way this is a good round-up of spanking stories is you are keen.

The pictures this week are a Brian Tarsis from Less Than Three blog, and two found on the blogs of Devlin O’Neil and Cherry Red.

spanking corner time spanking spanking corner time spanking corner time spanking corner timeotk spankingNow it is hard for me to believe that people have been tapping their feet wondering where this week’s round-up had got to, but if anyone has then my apologies. It has been one of those weekends followed by one of those days.

Tomorrow is the next instalment of Magic – it is a biggie and takes us halfway to the climax which will follow soon. This story has been here for so long (started over two years ago) and has about three or four episodes left. So if you have been following it – then thank you, if not (and I know that it hasn’t been everyone’s cup of tea) then it will soon end.

Others may have noticed that Spankmanship was finally concluded last week, so another regular series slot has now been freed up. More on that soon.

The big news of the week is that LSF have published the Christmas collections of spanking stories. My one and only Christmas spanking story was included in last year’s collection, so nothing from me this year, but it all goes to support the Spanking Library, which is free.

Something missed from last week was Cranky Spanker’s one millionth landmark. So Congratulations.

Elsewhere: Less Than Three had a short post on the nature of responsibility versus guilt and abuse of power by the Dom. There are some cute cartoons too. My Bottom Smarts has another list of new spanking blogs, which is always welcome. Cherry Red also has a round-up like this one of favourite links if you want to have a spanking surf.

Blossom and Thorn had a post on Corner Time Noir; see black and white picture above.

Have you heard about the new mainstream movie Nymphomaniacs? Others have mentions on several blogs that it may contain a spanking scene but (apologies if others were first but I haven’t seen it elsewhere) Au Fil des Jour has an actual clip and some stills like the one above with Charlotte Gainsborough bending over the arm of a sofa. Note here the creative use of what looks like telephone directories.

Other pictures are from: Able’s Tumblr, Devlin O’Neil, Plector and Spank Brian.

birched-in-the-snow caned veronica-ricci blue spanking Oxford Womenspank partyLast week saw the first of the Christmas posts; you may remember we reported on LSF Christmas story collection (see Bookshop). That is going to be a heavy feature of Spankville for a while no doubt.

We also got to welcome a new blog, Scarlet’s Real Magic, which we wish well and also welcome back the Spanking Spot, which has not only returned from temporary oblivion, but this time has shaken off the Trojan that had been cursing it for the last few weeks.

In terms of content, Acknowledging Imperfection has a story called Detention and the Spank Statement has a great excerpt from the Tattler, which featured an article on spanking and the pitfalls of spanking and being a young and sexual active man in the 1980s.

On a seasonal note the Spanking Romance Reviews has launched a winter competition for bloggers. A Voice in the Corner has accepted an invitation to take part and is offering a prize. There will be more about that next week.

Also seasonal, is Blossom and Thorn’s feature on spanking in the snow, which includes among others the birching picture above.

The other pictures this week are from: Able’s Spanking Blog, Devlin O’Neil, Cherry Red, and Plector.

spankingspanking spanking spanking spanking spankingI am guess that most people are getting ready for Christmas and have not been blogging so hard. Nevertheless, judging from the pictures above there are a few gems. Certainly Less Than Three are feeling the strain. Elhane even had to be spanked and go for a lie down and a good cry as pictured above.

Before I give you the heads up about the winter link-up promo, Scarlet said some very nice things about me over at her Real Magic blog. I was reading the post and just deciding to note for inclusion in this week’s round-up when I spotted my name. It made me feel “World famous in the north.” Seriously though, this blog is attracting a lot of attention and for a newbie is spot on the money with regular posts.

Back now to the Winter Spanks Cold Hands Warm Bottoms Blog Hop (2-4 January, 2014). This week or so I will be posting a story in association with this gig called a Winter’s Tail. To this end I am offering a prize, namely a digital copy of The Spanking Handbook (see bookshop), which was published last year and includes a contribution from yours truly. That explains the logo on the right. If you want a chance to win one of these prizes all you need to do is comment on one of the participating entries between its appearance and the closing date (4th January). That includes the entry on this blog, for which you may win the afore said Handbook, if your comment is picked as the winning entry.

Elsewhere the Spanking Spot has picked up that (probably) false report of a Trojan again. Hopefully it will shake itself out shortly.

Pictures this week are from: Less Than Three, Scarlet’s Real Magic, Nik Zula, Cutiepie, Chicago Spanking Review and Blossom & Thorn.

spanking spanking spankingI hope everyone has had (is having) a good Christmas. I still haven’t had time to get on top of things but thought to squeeze out one quick round-up.

The big (and sad) news is that Bonnie is retiring and closing My Bottom Smarts. It is a sad loss to the community and we wish her well. Some regular features of hers (like Love Our Lurkers) are being taken over by Hermione.

The Winter Cold Hands Warm Bottoms Hop is on 2nd January to the 4th, A Voice in the Corner’s entry can be found here. I am not sure I can fully engage with this as I cannot embed certain scripts on my pages – so if you feel that this Winter Hop light go to the home page and visit other participants.

Abigail Armani has a new book out and is also offering a free story. So check her out.

There is also a nice post on submission by Ehlane over at Less Than Three blog.

This coming Sunday (5th January) is the first London Alternative Market of the year; a good venue for newbies wanting to meet people or for just buying toys.

Pictures this week are from: Plector, Scarlet’s Real Magic and Spanking Starlets.

colour red colour red colour red cuffsThis is the first round-up of the year and so a happy New Year to you all.

Now here is a topical question. Are your Christmas decorations still up? I noticed that several pubs in London had theirs down before New Year, which is something of a new trend in my experience. The Church of England says that Christmas is officially over on 5th January, which is Twelfth Night, when some people ritualistically burn the tree and other decorations at an end of season party. But still others contend that the season ends today, it being the 12th Day of Christmas.

We split the difference and leave them up with lights on until midnight (last night) and take them down without ceremony today (if I get time).

But just to confuse everyone the Vatican leaves their decorations up until Candle Mass on the 2nd February. This incidentally is Chinese New Year, which is helpful. Maybe we can then extend the trend to cover Easter…

I am sure there is a story in all this somewhere but since this is all off-topic let’s move on.

A Winter’s Tail has been well received, but as to who won what and how it went off elsewhere we are still waiting to hear. I am referring of course to the Winter Cold Hands, Warm Bottom Bop, just follow your nose and you can check out other entries from here.

Meanwhile here is a sample of the other shorts on offer over at Acknowledging Imperfection.

Bonnie posted her last post last Tuesday and even found time to flag up one last list of new blogs. We can only hope that one day she will be back. But just check out her farewell stats, over 1,800 posts and 20,000 comments, with an average page hit of two million a year.

Hermione has hit the ground running taking over Bonnie’s Spanko Brunch, we wish her well.

This week’s pictures are from: About Spankings, Cutiepie, Scarlet’s Real Magic and Season & Michael.

Schadenfreude and real life spanking

$
0
0

schadenfreudeschadenfreudeSchadenfreude is a German word meaning ‘to take pleasure from someone else’s misfortune.’ This sentiment or emotion often goes to the heart of those interested in spanking and this is also true where consensual spanking is concerned.

From time to time A Voice in the Corner gets comments and emails lamenting articles on real life spanking and indeed stories that are not entirely about fully conscious consent. In real life this attitude is commendable and entirely appropriate. As the disclaimer for this blog has it, ‘Spanking and other sexual activities represented here are intended for adults. Nothing here should be interpreted as advocating any non-consensual spanking activity.’

But this blog does try to explore the unconscious and contradictory nature of the spanking need. A story with the naked plot ‘I want to be spanked, will you spank me?’ has a limited interest. Especially if after every page you feel you have to break into the narrative with the caution ‘this spanking is entirely consensual and no bottoms were harmed during its creation.’

Nevertheless, it is worth exploring the honour, taste and appropriate attitudes of enjoying or merely reading stories about the punishments of yesteryear. After all a memoir about a woman being birched as a maid in an Edwardian household might have been written to horrify or educate the modern audience. At best it is likely that the woman telling her story seeks only to amuse by way of grim humour. She may well be horrified if she knew that some gained some gratification from it.

But then again she may not. Why should we assume what was in the mind of the long dead? When one writes anything and gives it to the world, one cannot dictate how those words will be received. Writing is not a passive medium; it is an art form that is born of an interaction between the writer and the reader. If one wants to retain control then write only for a private diary.

One also has to consider that what was written may never have happened. Just because someone says it is a true account, does not mean that it is. In fact it is often the case that these ‘true accounts’ were written for the very purpose for which they were received.

Furthermore consider this excerpt originally written as a true account:

“I was seized by three large men who bundled me into a car. The next thing I know they were stripping me naked and despite all my protests drove me to an old warehouse and hung me up by my wrists. The whipping they gave me hurt more than I can say and the more I sobbed and begged the more they laughed and beat me.”

“It was lovely. The best thing about it was that I could enjoy the whole thing free of guilt and there was no danger that they would take any account of my begging.”

“Of course sadly this never really happened. Oh how I wish it had. But a girl can hope can’t she.”

This is not a great piece of writing and even if it had been well written it is far too extreme for most tastes, even those of this author. But reading the first paragraph were you titillated or horrified? Did the second paragraph change your mind or validate your feelings?

What about the third, with the admission that the whole thing never happened? What if it had? Is the fantasy only valid if it comes with a warning?

The important thing is that we discern what we can control from what we cannot. But more than that, we must know where we draw the line. If one cannot be honest about that and only permit oneself approved emotions, then that line is far more easily crossed.

Another important factor is how much time has passed. We might deny this, but schadenfreude is much harder to swallow when it is about current affairs rather than history. This is even true in our own lives, even when we consider issues such as punishment. Time heals and years on we might find our previous misadventures funny.

But getting back to cases, what if we agree that we are talking only of fantasy. How is it then valid to enjoy non-consensual punishment scenes even if they never happened? Many have been troubled by this, as has this author. Many domestic scenes featured on this blog in the past might be said to have bordered on abuse, even though the characters never existed.

Some can be justified because such stories have been used as metaphors or to explore the origins of the spanking fetish. But this is beside the point maybe and for some ducks the question and leaves them unsatisfied.

Consider this then. If schadenfreude in spanking stories is inappropriate it is a society-wide malaise and there is no particular reason to single out the spanking community. Indeed one might argue that there is far less reason to single them out.

This week in the UK millions enjoyed Sherlock Holmes making jokes about murder and then describing such incidents during, of all things, a best man’s speech. Sherlock (BBC TV) is at least often tongue in cheek about it.

Elsewhere serious and sadistic murder is the staple of TV and movies and has been for decades and yet millions more beyond the spanking community gobble up such fair with scarcely a backward glance; schadenfreude anyone? At least in a spanking book nobody dies or is even really harmed.

As both a writer and a reader one draws one’s own line, but there is such thing as society and it has rules. It is not always a defence to say that no one is hurt by fiction. Sometimes bad taste is harm enough. But we must beware here too, for who is to say what bad taste is and where do enforceable lines get drawn?

A champion of ethics once said ‘if it feels wrong, then it probably is wrong’ but then there is real life and schadenfreude.

Coming to terms with one’s own dark side and trying to square that with real life, human rights, gender rights and just plain good taste is a circle that can never be entirely squared. It is a fascinating and constant struggle we explore and one that can only exist perhaps as an adjunct to our lives or kept in a box marked ‘handle with care.’

spanked spanked spankedspankedFollowing my post on Friday about schadenfreude, I noted two other posts in the same vein. The day before Season and Michael had a light-hearted post about Spankenfreude (another German word?). The picture used above is coincidentally one I went looking for to illustrate my article. And early last week Kia at Acknowledging Imperfection had a more serious article that spoke directly to the issues raised by my Friday article.

Less Than Three also had an article by Ehlane about her spanking fantasies and when and why she got into them. Interestingly she spoke about being a hetro submissive woman and her attitude to being spanked by and spanking other women.

But getting down to stories, LSF blog plugged one of mine last week if you missed it, The Master and the Governess. Rollin is also selling and has a dollar a book offer at the moment.

If you want pictures then Cherry Red has a list of spanking sites and this seasons new spanking models and Chross has a good sporting fake (see above) in honour of the Winter Olympics.

Other pictures are from Wholebean and I, Plector, Cutiepie, and Less Than Three.

spank spank spank spank spank spank spank spankIt’s frosty and again there seems so much to do. In a hurry, sometimes careless words seem to generate more heat than light. So I will avoid rushed comments this week.

Coming soon (quite when, I am not sure) is the last and final part of Magic. There will probably be a post about this post (before or afterwards) just so that newbies can catch-up while they can.

On the subject of stories, I noticed that Rollin has had a recent run of new publications, while other blogs have been quiet. This is often the way in January.

Kia at Acknowledging Imperfection has a short word to say about the S-word and its power. One of the pictures above has been lifted from this post.

The 1950s picture was carried by Wolfie Toons, although it has been seen elsewhere as are many such pictures. That’s the way it goes and the origins of such things are quickly lost on the Internet. Just by way of an example I noticed a sorority picture I ‘discovered’ on Google reader cropping up elsewhere as someone else’s unique find. Of course I no more created it than the latest person to republish it or the next one, come to that.

Other pictures are from Scarlet’s Real Magic, Chross forum, Au Fils de Jours, Blossom &Thorn, and Wholebean & I, Able.

mooning in the snowThe weekend was somewhat busy and instead of a casual Sunday afternoon web catch-up, I had to leave it the Round-Up until today. Then guess who got stuck on a train in the bad weather? The picture above was snagged from Able’s Tumblr, but it rather sums up today. So no real round-up today.

On that note I have been very slow elsewhere too. A number of people wrote to me in the ding weeks of last year with offerings, observations and questions. Thank you for taking that time and trouble and thank you for considering me and this blog worthy of seeking advice and offering such fine goodies. However, apart form at most a brief reply of acknowledgment I have not had time to go through off of these and get back to some people with a considered reply. My apologies for that; I am still working on it.

On a happier note, tomorrow as scheduled the final part of Magic will finally appear here. Unfortunately I have lost the prepared graphic which I had been saving and have had to use a last minute replacement. Never mind, onwards and upwards.

spanking spanking spanking spanking wr plector spankingAs ever, running to catch-up and I have a lot of proofing review to do (not least Magic) for possible future publications, but enough about me.

Rollin too has a new story out. You can find out more here. Also recently the Spank Statement has returned to form after some infrequent posting. There is TV snippet about a spanking game called Hot Cockles played in 18th Baroque France.

Chross also has a movie snippet with a portion called Sadism. Actually it is rather playful.

The London Alternative Market has recently revamped its website, which serves as a timely reminder that this Sunday is the market for your spanking shopping needs and a chance to meet new people.

On another note, a couple of weeks back I ran a post on red bottoms and colour. It was a small throw away filler frankly, but it did provoke a brief debate about black women in spanking movies. In response on Friday I did another brief post on ebony spanking after finding a tumblr dedicated to such. Since then I see that Dreams of Spanking have made a movie featuring new model Lola Marie about a black student.

spanked 2 nudes otk spankedsororityBeen having some Internet outage, plus a bit of real life to contend with, hence no post on Saturday and a rather (at the moment) thin week coming up, which I hope to address.

But not every has been so unproductive. Blossom and Thorn have launched In With the New, with a list of new spanking blogs with acknowledgments to Bonnie. Also Hermione, as promised, has published her own list (now the official Bonnie list) of new spanking blogs. So get reading.

In another feature, the Chicago Spanking Review has launched Romantic Spanking Month for February.

Also Scarlet’s Real Magic is causing another stir. Amongst the other excellent content, she has recently published a series of spanking haikus by the poet Peony. One of which was republished by Dom with Pen, prompting a tribute haiku for him. Do you think A Voice in the Corner will get one now?

Acknowledging Imperfection has also been giving it large with the stories, including a sweet short associated with the picture above.

Another excellent post this week on the Spank Statement following up on the hot cockles game. It seems this spanking sport made it into art along with several other punitive pictures.

spanking spanking spanking spanking spankingBack from the wild and very wet South West and so far I have had no time to catch-up on comments. It looks like I am not the only one to be away and too busy to blog. Not to undermine those who have made posts it seems very quiet in Spankville at the moment. Several blogs have not updated for weeks and in a couple of cases have yet to emerge at all this year.

One of the obvious exceptions to this is Scarlet’s Real Magic, who seems to be in trouble. The OTK of Amelia above was taken from there.

Last week Rollin ran excerpt from Pendragon’s Lash, which is somewhat topical for me.

On another front the London Alternative Market is on Sunday down near Tower Bridge at America One. Yet again I won’t make it, Sunday’s are so awkward, but do drop in for it and the after-market party (tickets sold separately).

Just outside of the previous week, but as it is so quiet, I will point out that LSF Blog did a promo on my story The Uber Brats. This blog is a good reference for their other stories.

spanking spanking spanking spanking spanking spanking spankingAfter last week’s no show I was hoping for better things this week, but we seem to have a picture heavy round-up this time. The truth is I have a lot happening at the moment and the real world intervention doesn’t look like it is going to end any time soon. The net result of this is that I don’t have time for writing and reading.

As for writing, I have done it again and have started a new series (The Sinclair Method, a rare return to F/F period fiction) without finishing old ones. But at least I have managed to restart Ad Astra which is progressing. The next instalment is next week and I am determined not to let much more than a fortnight pass without a new episode.

You may have noticed too that I have started Cade County shorts, which like Abaconti give me a place with established characters to drop in on from time to time in short 2,000 word bursts. These will be mostly M/F (with some occasional F/F) Americana episodes based in one town at different points in its history. So far we have been to 1983 twice and 1892 where we will soon return.

Future visits may include the 1930s and 1950s, but not until after The Sinclair Method is complete, since that already has that period covered.

Future plans (of Mice and Men) include a return to Angela, Raw and Abraham Heights, but since none of these have an end game yet (I do sometimes plan these things) and Ad Astra does, I decided to focus there.

Also there are plans afoot to publish Magic as a book. LSF are chomping at the bit for it (which is gratifying) but have understood my time constraints given the epic editing requirements. There will be another collection or novella published before then in any case.

Thanks too to Paul and everyone else who bought my books and gave such positive reviews.

Responding to comments too has slipped, but thanks for all your contributions and for the submissions by anecdote writers and picture contributors who have emailed in. some of which cannot be used for various reasons as I have explained to you and others (with your kind permission) may be edited and published at a later date.

Looking at Spankville this week there is little news sadly. Many bloggers are clamouring for Miley Cyrus to be spanked, which is of course the kind of attention she is seeking, but if it ever happens I suspect it will be old news before I get to it.

The most significant event is that Stan at Au Fil des Jour has closed his blog. We hope that it is temporary and that he hasn’t run afoul of Blogspot, but I have noticed he has been slow to update lately.

The pictures this week are from: All Things Spanking, Cutiepie, Chicago Spanking, Dave Wolfe, Disciplinary Tales, Dreams of Spanking and Firm Hand Spanking.

Just who is the five o’clock hero?

$
0
0

spanking at fiveIt is typical of life that just as three or four major life events collide, within a few weeks the in-tray gets full to bursting. That is the nature of the world I suppose.

In Ancient Rome a conquering hero had a slave at his shoulder during a Triumph telling him ‘Remember you are mortal.’ Most of us have to contend with life and its ups and downs without such reminders. Not because we are not heroes, modern life is heroically complicated compared to the one led by those who trod that ancient forum, but because life reminds us every day that we are indeed mortal.

I say this not to blow my own trumpet, but to highlight another issue. I mean if I had a trumpet I would not hesitate to blow it, egoist that I am. That goes with the territory of being a master Dom in a castle high on a hill in North London surrounded with slave girls; assuming of course that any such creature ever existed.

No what I refer to is the great many emails that I have received of late just as I am unable to give them the attention they deserve. Often they come from writers and people with quite accomplished lives who variously ask me for advice, offer their stories, and in one case wonder if they will ever have the opportunity to come to Spankville for real.

The underlining assumption sometimes is that maybe I have some special knowledge or abilities that transcends the norm. But normality is a relative concept and ultimately a state of mind.

The truth is I am just a guy who apart from a few half-baked clumsy adventures had no experience until well into my 20s and thought a spanking relationship was only going to happen in my head.

Then a clumsy virgin offering me fellatio (my first experience as it happens) bit me by mistake and I spanked her; an action that surprised us both and led to further adventures, Lost in Yorkshire being just one of them.

I was not miraculously turned into a Dom by this relationship and despite further adventures and other women I continued to bumble on haphazardly for many years.

Now the readers of this post, assuming they got this far and did not just dwell on the picture above, will be divided into three parts.

The first will be thinking how comes this never happens to me. For the second it already has and probably more often and finally there are the scene players who occasionally dip in for stories and pictures who are already yawning and thinking ‘just get on with it will you it’s no big deal.’

Most of the first group will be under 40, or perhaps younger than 50 even.

There are many exceptions but most people do not have the confidence, maturity or experience to see that life is finite and that they do not need permission to be who they are until they have been around the block a few times. And even then we are all still scared as we heroically press on.

If you are a 21-year-old guy terrified that a girl will think you’re a perv for your spanking tastes, then remember that she is even more scared.

I did not make real progress (and heaven knows I am still learning) until I began this blog and began to use it as a hook to make contact.

These days I am lucky enough to have a relationship with P in our modest ‘castle’ in North London. She is a much loved and much missed talented former blogger outted by an envious malicious delusional fantasist she was once foolish enough to trust. I know for a fact, and thanks for that support friends, that she inspired many women to be who they are. It is a shame that the woman concerned managed to mar several lives and close at least one other popular blog by phoning the blogger’s workplace or similar actions. But on this I can say no more.

I don’t talk about my relationship or our adventures together, although they inspire almost everything I do in one way or another. But do not think that such relationships are easy or always run smoothly. If I ever get it right then I might hand out some advice about it. But if you remember, respect, trust and empathy in all things, then you will not need it.

As I said at the top of the page, the in-tray is bursting and not all of it vanilla. I have had some great stories and pictures from people, some of which I hope to use one day in some form. But as I have explained some stories are inappropriate for one reason or another and must be filtered or edited. This blog is for and about the 18+, but keep them coming and if I have not got back to you or replied to your emails and comments it is because I am only mortal and life events have overwhelmed me lately.

I say only this now because of all the kind words and contributions of people willing to share who have asked in one way or another ‘who is DJ Black?’ I want to thank them.

I am a man on a journey, just like you and just like you I have far to go. We all have lives and hurdles to climb, but sometimes life does begin at 40, 50, 60 or even 5 o’clock.

Just to mention a few, Chross has a classic mainstream whipping scene from the 1966 movie Ramrodder (pictured right), Cranky Spanker has the spanking scene from Love Crimes (pictured above) and Chicago Spanking Review has a cute spanking from the 1950s TV show Route 66.

Meanwhile I have done quite a bit of writing, although not as much as I had hoped. On the slate is the next chapter of Ad Astra and another short. There are also some pictures sent in by readers and another real life anecdote.
